Training Checklists

I believe that to prepare for a class, really means to over-prepare. But no matter how much you prepare, there is always seems to be something missing once the class has started. That is why I am a firm believer in checklists. Below I have found a great all-inclusive checklist online. Check it out! Can you find the one thing that I added?

​Prepare A Training Course - General To Do - Checklist

​This checklist contains considerations required for the preparation and production of a training course. Preparation, great content and a great trainer of the key to delivery of training course. Have key pieces in place and you will find yourself with rave reviews, and more than that, candidates who will leave engaged, eager to put their new found knowledge to the test. Follow this checklist when you prepare your next training course, and do let us know via a review how it went, did we forget anything?​

Initial training course preparation:
  1. Training needs analysis completed
  2. High level course content definition completed
  3. High level course content definition reviewed/approved with sponsor


Training course agenda :
  1. Delegates list completed
  2. Delegate list size plus flex/contingency fits with course
  3. Delegate/audience analysis completed?
  4. Detailed agenda contains location of training (including directions if people are travelling?)
  5. Detailed agenda contains who to contact on arrival and where to go?
  6. Detailed agenda informs delegates know who to contact if cannot attend/running late?
  7. Detailed agenda contains objectives?
  8. Detailed agenda contains names/roles and email contacts?
  9. Detailed agenda containers trainers and their contact details?
  10. Detailed agenda contains suggested arrival times?
  11. Detailed agenda contains schedule with lunch/break start/end times?
  12. Detailed agenda has been spell checked?
  13. Detailed agenda contains trainer pre-requisites?
  14. Detailed agenda contains delegate prerequisites?
  15. Detailed agenda lists course, help references?
  16. Detailed agenda list post course support numbers?
  17. Detailed agenda completed
  18. Detailed agenda reviewed/approved
  19. Delegates have had chance to review and comment upon the agenda to ensure full coverage


Training course material preparation:
  1. Any required power-point slides completed?
  2. Any required power-point slides reviewed/approved?
  3. Training guides completed?
  4. Training guides reviewed/approved?
  5. Reference guide completed?
  6. Reference guides reviewed/approved?
  7. Videos if available completed?
  8. Video reviewed/approved?
  9. E-learning if available completed?
  10. E-learning reviewed/approved?
  11. Correct data exists if hands on?
  12. All users will have correct logins if hands-on?


Preparation for running a training course checklist:
  1. Ensure a venue located
  2. Ensure trainers are identified and booked around training dates
  3. Ensure trainers are booked for preparation work
  4. Ensure courses are trialed where necessary
  5. Populate training database with data ensuring data reflects who will be logging in
  6. Special dietary or disability needs considered?


Training course location preparation (just ahead):
  1. Photocopier/printing is available?
  2. Projector and screen available?
  3. Wipe-board/flipchart available?
  4. Wipe-board/flipchart pens/wiper available?
  5. Training machines can be made available with the correct specification?
  6. Refreshments can be supplied?
  7. Ensured wireless/network speeds are strong?
  8. Emergency procedures for venue are understood (fire exists etc)
  9. Training room provisional bookings made?
  10. Ensure you know if/when are fire drills will be taken during the course
  11. Ensure take a phone charger
  12. Is your power-point clicker packed with extra batteries? (This one is from Yasmine. :))
  13. Ensure take a power converter if training abroad
  14. Spare power adaptor
  15. Ensure materials are printed where necessary
  16. Ensure spare copy of power points/materials held on memory stick taken with you
  17. Ensure there is a review form for the user to score the course and to confirm they are now trained (with room to detail exceptions where that is not the case)
  18. Prepare name tags/labels if required
  19. Ensure a contact number is available for local IT and that they are available to assist if any infrastructure issues
  20. If any aspect of the course requires remote communication, ensure that element of the course is trailed from the actual venue
  21. Correct number of tables/chairs exist?
  22. Room temperatures are going to be appropriate
  23. Firm training room bookings
  24. Ensure spare bulbs for projector are available
  25. Ensure spare wipe board/flip chart pens are available
  26. Taking a supply of post-it notes?
  27. Pens and paper will be supplied in the room?


Training course location preparation (on the day):
  1. Check where restrooms are
  2. Confirm connection speeds form training location are as required
  3. Check lighting and blinds
  4. Check air conditioning
  5. Check electrical outlets
  6. Check water is available
  7. Confirm logins work for all expected delegates
  8. Ensure projector and screen working
  9. Ensure projector is working
  10. Ensure training machines available and working
  11. Confirm wipe-board/flip chart pens working
  12. Ensure details are given to delegates regards emergency exits
  13. Ensure details are given to delegates regards restrooms
